When we originally designed the SMS Masterminds loyalty rewards system, we started as a “Do It Yourself” model for small business owners. Our thought was to allow the owner to take the reins and do it all themselves. However, after months of testing this process, significant roadblocks started coming into focus.
The first road block came with the busy lives of the small business owners – staffing, inventory, payroll, stocking, and all the extra daily routines involved with running a business left little time for learning how to set up the back end of the loyalty software and create the text message campaigns. Without the knowledge of the system and a well thought out messaging strategy, the loyalty program would not be fully effective.
Secondarily, there was a lack of in-depth knowledge about the mobile marketing industry. How do you fully utilize a program set to bring in droves of new business through mobile marketing if you don’t know how to properly execute it to its full potential? Coupled with the challenge of knowing how to carefully craft an eye catching and enticing offer into 140 characters for optimum exposure made us take a step back and reevaluate how to leverage our system to create the greatest amount of value for our merchants and consumers.
We realized the system needed someone devoted to mobile marketing and merchant success, a “mini marketing director”, who could setup, administer and monitor the system on behalf of the business owners. With that in mind we developed the idea of our “Certified Masterminds”‘ to learn the system and take the knowledge to the merchants. The new full service approach not only opened the door for the originally approached businesses to be able implement the system immediately, but it also created the opportunity to introduce the system on a national scale.
Each of our licensees completed a series of courses in our “Mastermind BootCamp” training program that certifies them as a mobile and loyalty marketing specialist. Once completed they become qualified to receive an exclusive license to the Masterminds technology in their market. It’s not just about bringing the right tools and gadgets to the job place either, each licensee brings with them empathy for small business marketing and what is needed for success, making themselves available for the needs of the merchant to answer any questions or concerns about growing their business. The goal is not just to sell a product but to build a relationship with the merchants, giving them a joy for the mobile marketing and loyalty rewards programs that they can pass along to their customers.
